Preventative Dentistry

Preventative dentistry involves the prevention of tooth decay and gum disease, which are interrelated because plaque is the major contributor to both diseases.

Every six or twelve months we like to professionally remove all plaque and calculus and to apply fluoride to strengthen the teeth. At this visit we will also carry out a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and general oral health.

We have the most advanced digital x-ray systems that results in a 90% reduction in exposure to radiation, allowing us periodically to safely check for dental decay and gum disease.

We are soon to include a digital OPG machine to check whole upper and lower jaws useful for looking at wisdom teeth, abscesses, bone cysts and missing permanent teeth.

Cosmetic Dentistry

There are many elective cosmetic procedures that patients can pursue to enhance their smile.

These include porcelain or composite resin veneers, porcelain crowns on heavily filled or darkened teeth, internal bleaching of a dead, root-filled tooth, and aesthetic re-contouring.

Cases of stained or mottled teeth can often be resolved using simple techniques such as bleaching and polishing.

Sometimes the best option may be a referral to an orthodontist for the best treatment.

Dentures

Dentures are a great way to replace missing teeth. There is no limit to how many teeth can be placed on a denture. Dentures can be made with 1 tooth. Dentures can be made to replace all teeth.

The denture making process is not an immediate process. Appointments need to be made for certain steps in a certain order in a pre-determined timeframe.

Your dentist understands your time is important to you and we look after many out of town clients. Measures will be made in some cases to hasten the process if required.

Partial dentures can be made from a number of different materials. Given your individual situation your dentist will recommend which material would best suit your budget and Oral health requirements. Simply call and make a consultation time to discuss your dental needs.

Implants

Dental Implants are a breakthrough in the replacement of missing or lost teeth. Dental Implants are far and away the most aesthetic and comfortable tooth replacement option available today.

Given the results of the implant and the processes undertaken to place the implant, it needs to be seen as an investment for life rather than a one off cost.

Here at Hilltops Dentistry we are pleased to partner with specialists in Canberra and Sydney to provide this personalised treatment for you. Simply call and make a consultation time to discuss your dental needs.

Children’s Dentistry

It’s important that children feel relaxed in a dental environment, so we make sure young children have a positive experience when they come to our rooms.

A first visit may be playing with toys in the surgery while another family member is treated.

By the age of four we would like to check teeth in an informal way, and by five be able to clean children’s teeth.

At six, children should have fluoride applied to their first permanent molars.

During primary school years the emphasis is on keeping the baby teeth healthy and functional, so that the space for the permanent teeth is maintained.

During this time and into teenage years our major goal is to keep the permanent teeth decay free while monitoring jaw growth and bite, and if required, recommending orthodontics.

Tooth Whitening

We offer professional whitening treatments and believe the best and safest whitening result is achieved by using a gradual two-week treatment.

This involves a short appointment for us to make your professionally fitted bleaching trays (that feel like a mouthguard).

You then apply the bleaching gel to your teeth at home via the trays.

Crowns & Bridges & Porcelain Veneers

A crown is a capping that fits over a prepared tooth to reduce the chance of a heavily restored tooth or root canal treated tooth breaking beyond repair leading to tooth loss.

The process of making the crown will entail two visits with your dentist. Generally dental crowns are made from porcelain to match the colour of teeth

A bridge is a means of replacing a missing tooth by crowning the teeth adjacent to the gap and providing not only strength to the adjacent teeth but a new tooth to fill a space. The preparation of a bridge is similar to that of a dental crown.

Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic approach to aligning front teeth and altering colour to be uniform. Veneers are made to cover the front surface of teeth and require only a small amount of preparation. Simply call and make a consultation time to discuss your dental issue and suitability for crowns, bridges or veneers.

Wisdom Teeth

Here at Hilltops Dentistry we are happy to assist in the management of Wisdom teeth or third molars.

Nowadays Wisdom teeth are more a hindrance than a help and can cause tooth, jaw and ear ache. We can discuss the option to extract the teeth and in some complex cases refer you to the right specialist for your personalised treatment.

Simply call and make a consultation time to discuss your dental requirements.
